SooToday.com received the following letter from a P-Patch resident who said the people of the neighbourhood didn't want the bear that has been hanging around the area shot.

**************************** As concerned P Patch residents, we have been terribly dismayed to hear about the actions taken against the bear that has been plaguing the surrounding area.

The animal is just trying to survive like you and I.

It should have been tranquilized and released back into its habitat.

It was our understanding that police did not have the authority to shoot and kill the animal.

What happened!?

With young kids of our own, safety was a primary concern,

But surely with the resources available in this day and age, other steps could have been taken to prevent killing.

Was the MNR contacted?

What part did they play in the decision seeing that this sort of activity is their jurisdiction?

In our opinion this was cruel and thoughtless behaviour or maybe the actions of a less qualified individual.
