Canadian Law officials are seeking to extradite a Chicago-area man who admits to setting a fire that killed a 48-year-old woman in Sault Ontario in May, reports the Chicago Tribune.

Gregory Flesher, 48, is facing arson charges in his home town of Waukegan, Illinois, just north of Chicago.

Flesher, who once ran for mayor and the Lake County Board in Waukegan, also admits to setting a fire that destroyed a former Salvation Army warehouse in downtown Waukegan on May 4.

The Tribune reports that his wife, Patricia Flesher, witnessed him placing fireworks in another Waukegan building on May 11.

She filed for divorce and he went missing.

On May 19 his name was listed as a witness to the fire that killed Leeanne Elizabeth Hill, of 606 Wellington St. E., 500 miles from Waukegan.

City police in the Sault discovered he was wanted for arson in Waukegan and he became their primary person of interest in the fatal fire on Wellingon Street.

They are seeking to extradite him on charges of homicide and arson.
