Two new fires were reported in the Northeast Region on Monday, June 27.

Cochrane 16 was reported west of Attiwapiskat and is not under control at 4.0 hectares.

North Bay 16 was reported not far west of North Bay and is out at 0.1 hectares.

There are an additional two fires still active in the region.

Cochrane 6 was reported southwest of Kashechewan and is being observed at 500.0 hectares.

Most of the Northeast Region will be mainly cloudy with rain showers.

Moderate to strong winds will develop by the early afternoon.

Temperatures will drop to mid-teens with high levels of precipitation.

The hazard is low to moderate throughout the southern half of the region but increases to high in the northern portion.

In Northwestern Ontario, an Emergency Area Order remains in effect for the area around Sioux Lookout 35, restricting travel and entry into the area as fire suppression efforts continue on the not under control blaze now listed at almost 66,000 hectares.

Mishkeegogomang First Nations residents evacuated due to smoke concerns last week remain in the communities of Sioux Lookout, Ignace and Greenstone.

Planning on enjoying a campfire this long weekend?

Keep your fire small, build it on bare rock or dirt, never leave it unattended and make sure it is completely extinguished before leaving the site.

Drown! Stir! Drown!

Fireworks are permitted, but if you set them off, you are responsible for ensuring all residue is extinguished.

If you live within a municipality, contact your local municipal office or fire department before burning.
