CHRISTIAN PROVENZANO LIBERAL CANDIDATE SAULT STE. MARIE

************************* Provenzano campaign swings into high gear for election's home stretch

SAULT STE. MARIE – With less than 48 hours until the votes are counted, the campaign of Sault Ste. Marie Liberal candidate Christian Provenzano continues to gain momentum.

Says Provenzano: “We’re sprinting hard and we are continuing to get a great and positive response from voters in the Sault and area. We exhausted our initial supply of 2 000 lawn signs some time ago. We had to start using extras and requests are still coming in.”

Volunteers with the campaign have already called over 60,000 households in the Sault and area.

Prior to this weekend over 16 000 doors had already been knocked on and the campaign believes it will reach a further 2,500 by the end of this Sunday.

“Our campaign has done things differently,” says Provenzano. “We don’t have advisors from out of town, we don’t have paid staff. We rely completely on volunteers. This has freed up funds for us to do a lot of activities. The commitment and effort of our team has just been phenomenal.”

The grassroots nature of the Provenzano campaign is evident in its get out the vote operation. More than 170 campaign volunteers will be assisting on Election Day on Monday.

“We’ve identified who our supporters are and we have the team in place to help get them out to the polls,” says Provenzano. “We have a good idea of the level of support we have and it is going to surprise many local pundits on Monday night.”

“There’s no denying that the race is close. Sault Ste. Marie is a swing riding and all three of the major national parties have been targeting it. The deciding factor could be which campaign has the best ground game. I feel like the size and dedication of our team gives us a real advantage in that regard.”

Another factor working in the Provenzano campaign’s favour is the hunger for change that is evident in the electorate.

Says Provenzano: “Local voters are tired of our broken politics. There’s a desire for an elected representative who will put solving problems ahead of scoring political points. I can be this type of leader because I’m committed to putting the Sault and area first.”

"Instead of selling themselves, it is telling that the NDP and Conservative campaigns are using the little time left telling people not to vote for me. The NDP campaign claims a vote for me is a vote for Stephen Harper. The Conservative campaign claims a vote for me is a vote for Michael Ignatieff. What they both want you to lose sight of is the simple fact that a vote for Christian Provenzano is a vote for Christian Provenzano."
