(March 7, 2011) - The new Sault Area Hospital was officially christened today with the arrival of the first newborn.

Landon Jace Zelonko, was born at 10:34 a.m., weighing in at eight pounds, 10 ounces and measuring 20 inches.

Proud parents are Kaya and Laramie.

Landon’s arrival had also been eagerly anticipated by older sister Ella and grandparents Leslie and Karen Zelonko and Tony Plachcinski and Grace Plachcinska.

To mark this very special milestone, and thanks to the generosity of local area merchants, Landon and his family will receive a fabulous gift package including:

- Registered Education Savings Plan contribution ($500 initial contribution and $100 per year for the next five years) courtesy of BMO-Bank of Montreal

- “Watch Me Grow” Baby Portrait Program Package courtesy of Brian Tremblay Photography

- “Just for Baby” Gift Basket courtesy of Shoppers Drug Mart, Second Line West

- $100 Gift Certificate courtesy of Arturo Ristorante Italiano

- Classic Pedicure and Manicure Gift Certificate courtesy of Spa World

- “pressions” Plaster Print Kit and Oneida Baby Spoon & Fork Set courtesy of Savoy’s Jewellers.

“There will only ever be one first baby born at our magnificent new hospital, so we wanted to make sure we celebrated his/her arrival appropriately,” said Johanne Messier-Mann, SAH’s chief nursing officer and director of the maternal/child and medical programs. “What better way to mark the opening of our new hospital than by helping to bring a new life into the world?”
