U.S. President Barack Obama will travel to Marquette next Thursday, February 10.

The President will use the occasion to promote one his top priorities.

During his State of the Union Address last month, Obama called for a National Wireless Initiative.

Among other things, it would help businesses extend next generation wireless coverage to 98 percent of Americans.

The White House chose Marquette as an example of how the President's proposal can support innovation, create jobs and help America "out-build the competition to win the future."

No itinerary has been released yet.

But it's expected Obama will visit Northern Michigan University, stop at a local business and make selected appearances elsewhere in the community.

Blustery winter weather could greet the President.

Marquette's current long-range forecast calls for patchy blowing snow in the morning and temperatures in the -12°C to -15°C range (5°F to 10°F). George W. Bush was the last sitting president to visit the Upper Peninsula.

The Bush campaign swung through Marquette in July 2004.
