CITY POLICE

NEWS RELEASE

**************************** Update to partial water disruption

Members of the city emergency planning committee have met with members of the PUC and have been provided the following information:

The emergency affects only a certain part of the city, specifically the hill area west of Black Road, north of MacDonald Avenue and east of Peoples Road (see attached map).

The PUC is working to restore water supply to this area.

Currently the water is safe for drinking, however the Algoma Public Health Unit has issued a precautionary boil water advisory for the affected area.

Residents are asked to boil their water for at least one minute before drinking.

It is requested that the public in the affected area not use any water except for consumption purposes only.

People that reside in the water restriction zone are advised to rely on family members or friends in the non-affected area (i.e. bathing and laundry usage).

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is asking the public not to inquire about this issue on the 911 emergency phone lines.

It is unknown when the PUC when have the situation corrected.

The public will be advised of further updates as they become available.
