**************************** Female charged in relation to breach of court order

SAULT STE. MARIE - The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service (SSMPS) in conjunction with the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) have arrested Lydia Lapinskas, age 20 of Sault Ste.Marie, for being party to the offence of failing to comply with direction in detention order. On November 12, 2009 at approximately 1:40 p.m., Aiden Floyd-Lapinskas was transported to hospital after Ambulance Services responded to a report of a child in distress in an apartment on Old Garden River Road in Sault Ste. Marie.

On November 16,the child died as a result of his injuries.

On January 12, the SSMPS arrested James Purcell, aged 30 of Sault Ste. Marie, with one count of 2nd degree murder.

On January 13, Purcell appeared in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court where a non-communication order was imposed on him not to communicate with witnesses.

Police received information that Purcell breached the non-communication order when he communicated with a named witness.

Lapinskas was party to the offence and facilitated the communication with Purcell.

Purcell appeared in Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court on Wednesday, January 20 where his matter was adjourned to February 2 for video remand.

Lapinskas was released on a promise to appear for court on the March 1 at Sault Ste. Marie Provincial Court.
