Quantánamo Bay detainees will be housed in a nearly empty prison in rural Illinois, not in Standish, Michigan.

Media reports this morning indicate that a limited number of detainess - reportedly less than 100 - will be kept at the Thomson Correctional Center in western Illinois.

The correctional centre will be acquired by the federal government.

An official announcement is to be made today at the White House.
