Community development funding workshop planned for UP

Levin, Stabenow and Stupak announce U.P.-wide community development and federal funding workshop

ESCANABA - U.S. Sens. Carl Levin and Debbie Stabenow (both D-Mich.) and Rep. Bart Stupak (D-Menominee, shown) are the honorary co-chairs for a U.P.-wide community development and federal funding interactive workshop on Thursday, November 5, 2009. 

In collaboration with the U.P. Economic Development Alliance, Operation Action U.P. and the Jobforce Board, this workshop will feature an interactive video conference format, integrating various sites across the Upper Peninsula. 

Attendees have the following choice of locations: 

- Northern Michigan University in Marquette

- Michigan Technological University in Houghton

- Lake Superior State University in Sault Ste. Marie

- Gogebic Community College in Ironwood

- Bay de Noc Community College in Escanaba

Presentations will consist of an overview of programs from the Economic Development Administration from the perspective of U.P. planning agencies, the Small Business Administration and the U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development. 

Presenters will focus on available American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funding opportunities, including a recent allocation for business and industry program funding to assist small businesses in Michigan. 

Rural business owners, lenders, community leaders and economic development officials are all encouraged to attend.
