A Michigan probate judge has been sentenced to one year of probation and was ordered to pay $1,200 in fines after pleading guilty to driving while impaired.

Judge Charles Nebel was also sentenced to serve two days in jail.

He was, however, credited for two days already served.

Michigan State Police troopers from Newberry witnessed Nebel driving in excess of 100 miles an hour this past July.

Under his plea agreement, Nebel's original charge of driving while intoxicated was dropped, allowing him to be arraigned for the lesser charge of driving while impaired.

As he stood in front of Judge Thomas Phillips of Traverse City, Nebel stated: "I'm very embarrassed and humiliated to stand here at this point. I don't think much of that behaviour. I want to promise you, and everyone else that I've mentioned and everyone I have failed in the process, that this behavior will never be repeated."
