FOREST FIRE SITUATION UPDATE

MINISTRY OF NATURAL RESOURCES

************************* East Fire Region

Approximately 570 fire personnel from Ontario are assisting with the fire suppression efforts in British Columbia.

Ontario has also sent two CL415 water bombers and an array of forest fire suppression equipment to B.C.

Ontario continues to support the fires situation in B.C. with additional personnel and equipment.

Today will see the first exchange of Ontario fire staff with 122 fire personnel travelling to B.C. and 122 returning to Ontario on Saturday.

There were no new fires reported in the East Fire Region within the last 24 hours. Currently there are no active fires in the region. There will be scattered pockets of moderate fire hazard around Marathon, Wawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Sudbury, North Bay, and Parry Sound.

The rest of the East Fire Region will have a low hazard.

Even though the fire hazard is currently low to moderate remember to check your site before you light.

Take a walk around the area; dry, crunchy vegetation can be an indication of a localized dry pocket.

Awareness of your surroundings is important when it comes to fire safety.
