A 56-year-old Dearborn, Michigan homeowner is undergoing psychiatric evaluation after at least 75 dead dogs were discovered in freezers in his home.

The home was stacked from floor to ceiling with old furniture, garbage, appliances, newspapers and animal feces.

It has taken police and animal rescue crews three days to sift through debris in the condemned home in a search for live animals.

So far, more than 100 dogs have been rescued after being found stashed in closets, coolers, walls, furniture, old televisions sets, and the trunk of the homeowner's car.

All of the dogs are small breeds - Chihuahuas and Jack Russel Terriers - some are pregnant, and many are suffering serious disease or have deformities.

Police are seeking to criminally charge the homeowner.
