Campus rebuild “project twenty eleven” awarded to IPE Consortium
SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (July 21) - Sault College board of governors approved the Integrated Partners in Education (IPE) proposal to offer an integrated building approach to build a new academic building, considered Phase 1 of the campus rebuild at Sault College.
The Integrated Partners in Education (IPE) is a design-build consortium led by EllisDon.
The key members of the integrated team are Sault College, EllisDon Design Build Inc., architects Tillmann Ruth Mocellin (aTRM), who will work locally with EPOH Inc. architects, and mechanical/electrical consultants, and the structural team of Halsall Associates Limited.
“We chose the integrated team approach of EllisDon because the consortium can carry out functional, planning and delivery of the project to meet the scheduled timelines of completion by March 2011,” says Dr. Ron Common, president Sault College.
The successful consortium have extensive experience in constructing postsecondary education facilities in Ontario and are involved in other knowledge infrastructure projects at Ontario colleges.
Project management will be by cm2r inc., a project management company, with George North as the on-site project manager.
One of Mr. North’s responsibilities will be to ensure that the project will utilize community-based workers and the purchase of materials from local suppliers wherever possible.
Meetings have begun and preparations are underway to move this project forward to keep it on schedule.
“We will be providing updates to the college community and Sault Ste. Marie community to “project twenty eleven” via our website. Progress of the construction, a photo gallery, architectural renditions, news releases and information bulletins will be posted as available at www.saultcollege.ca/project2011
“It is an exciting time of renewal for Sault College and we thank David Orazietti, MPP Sault Ste. Marie and the Honourable Tony Clement, minister of industry and member of Parliament for Parry Sound–Muskoka and their governments for the commitment to this important investment.
Construction on campus will require patience and understanding by staff and students during the building phase,” says Dr. Common. “We hope you will look to project twenty eleven as a commitment to a brighter future for all involved with Sault College.”
