U.S. Marines are pouring by the thousands today into Afghanistan's Helmand River valley, in what the Washington Post is calling "the first large-scale test of the American military’s new counterinsurgency strategy."The 2nd Marine Expeditionary Brigade, together with an army brigade that will arrive later, will drive into parts of Afghanistan where NATO troops are not present and the Taliban has been taking over.
