Sault Family YMCA opens circuit training room

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON - (October 29) - If you’re looking for a sweaty and fun-filled workout among friends, look no further!

The Sault Family YMCA is proud to announce the launch of a new circuit fitness training room.

The room comes equipped with 8 hydraulic weight training stations and eight cardio stations using recumbent bikes and Reebok steps.

According to Colleen Crowley, health, fitness and recreation manager: “We have enough stations to work the entire body including squats for the quadriceps, glutes and hamstrings, chest press/seated row and shoulder press/lat pull down for the chest, upper back and shoulders, triceps and biceps, rotary torso and seated crunch for the abdominals, back extension for the lower back, and adduction and abduction for the inner and outer thighs.”

Earlier this month, YMCA staff participated in a Circuit training preview class.

“Circuit training was a big hit with our staff and now we are offering classes every Monday and Wednesday from 12:10 p.m. to 12:45 p.m. for both staff and YMCA members. We plan to add classes on Tuesday and Thursday from 1 p.m. to 1:35 p.m. to allow those with a later lunch to join us. If there is a demand we will also offer circuit training in the evenings,” said Crowley.

Youth also have the opportunity to experience the equipment.

Participants enrolled in the youth fitness conditioning program are permitted to use the room during their class times.

According to Crowley, there are many benefits to circuit training.

“Circuit training allows an individual to get a full body muscular workout in a very short period of time, so it is a very efficient way to work the entire body. This type of training is also extremely effective for promoting body fat reduction because participants burn a significant amount of calories in a relatively short period of time.”
