************************* OPP investigation of the 1970 disappearance of 12-year-old girl continues

TORONTO - (October 19) - On October 20 1970, 12-year-old Katherine May Wilson disappeared from Kirkland Lake, Ontario.

She was last seen walking home carrying grocery bags on Harvey Kirkland Road on the outskirts of Kirkland Lake and has not been seen or heard from since.

The Ontario Provincial Police believe that her disappearance was the result of foul play and are appealing for information from the public to help solve this tragic case.

Members of the Kirkland Lake Detachment and the North East Region of the OPP continue to investigate her disappearance and will be conducting interviews in the Kirkland Lake area over the next several weeks.

"We are appealing to the public for any information that will help us solve this tragic case," said Detective Inspector Ken Leppert of the OPP Criminal Investigation Branch who is leading the investigation. "What you think might be insignificant, could be an important piece of the puzzle that will assist us in identifying the person or persons responsible." "We will be relentless in our pursuit of justice for the family, friends and community of this young girl who disappeared 38 years ago," Commissioner Julian Fantino said. At the time of her disappearance Katherine May Wilson was 145 centimetres (4'9") tall, 47 kilograms (105 pounds) with brown eyes and curly black collar-length hair.

She was wearing a blue blouse, red bell-bottom pants with a white flower design and brown shoes.

The Government of the Province of Ontario is offering a reward of $50,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.
