************************* Marijuana grow-op is largest in Canada's history

PEMBROKE, ON - (September 22) - On Thursday September 18, 2008, members of the Upper Ottawa Valley crime unit assisted by members of the OPP drug enforcement section and the OPP emergency response team executed a search warrant at a farm located on B Line Road, Laurentien Valley Township.

Due to the vastness of the outdoor marijuana grow, over the weekend, numerous officers who were called into assist, seized over 40,000 marijuana plants that were ready for harvest.

The approximate street value of the drugs seized is in excess of $40 million dollars.

As a result of the warrant, officers also seized two tractors, a combine and several other pieces of farming equipment.

The marijuana farming operation consisted of an irrigation system of plastic pipe from a pond and an above ground swimming pool.

Marijuana was growing between stalks of corn [shown].

Some of the marijuana was in the process of being harvested.

The double garage behind the residence had been prepared for the drying process.

Officers are continuing the investigation into this huge marijuana grow operation.

"This is the largest marijuana grow operation ever seen by the OPP since the former Barrie Brewery Plant operation in 2003," said Superintendent Frank Elbers, director, OPP drug enforcement section, "this indicates the extent of the illegal marihuana grow problem in Ontario and Canada."

The OPP want to remind everyone to use caution if they come across any kind of marijuana grow.
