Farmers' Market doesn't deliver (18 photos)

Sandy Morehouse came to Family Day at Algoma Farmers' Market today, expecting more than vegetables, preserves and face painting.

At 12:34 p.m. when we found her, Morehouse's expectations had not yet been fulfilled.

She was in the midst of a good strong contraction.

She did find some real yummy raspberries and anadama bread for her three children, though.

And she said she plans to return next weekend with all four of her children.

Morehouse has been in labour for her fourth child, a boy, since yesterday and decided to take a walk this morning to bring on the contractions more consistently.

It appears to be working.

Our interview concluded rather abruptly when she began another contraction.

Morehouse's labour coach told her that less than five minutes had passed since her last contraction, and off they went.

Meanwhile, the many merchants packed up their wares - the few that remained - after a very successful family day at the Algoma Farmers' Market.

"We had a lot of people out for the first time today," said Lee-Ann Chevrette of Algoma Food Network. "Now we hope to make it a habit for people to come back every Saturday."

Not necessarily to have babies, but to protect local food sources and promote healthy food for future generations, Chevrette said.

This is the first time the Algoma Farmers' Market and the Algoma Food Network have joined forces to host a amilyF Day at the farmers' market.
