Eddy Arnold died today near Nashville, one week short of his 90th birthday.

Many older readers will remember his television appearances in the 1950s.

During a career that began in the 1940s and continued until 1999, Arnold achieved 28 No. 1 records on the Billboard country charts.

Major hits among more that 85 million records sold included Make the World Go Away and What’s He Doing in My World?

At one time, the "Tennessee Ploughboy" was managed by Col. Tom Parker, who later became Elvis Presley’s manger.

Arnold’s wife of 66 years, Sally, passed away in March.
