Meet the Frosty burger.

One pound of ground beef, six pieces of bacon and four slices of cheddar cheese.

A vegan nightmare and a dieter's worst enemy.

This monstrosity is only available at Neil's Diner located at 518 Queen Street East.

Friday evening at 6 p.m., four brave men sat at the Neil's Diner counter and prepared their gullets for the Frosty Challenge 2008.

The first to successfully ingest the burger then chug a bottle of Coke would win naming rights to the massive mouth-full for one year.

Contenders Lucas Rafuse, Chris Burry, Neil's Diner proprietor Neil Brennan and Jonathan Norris (AKA Frosty) each paid $100 to participate in the fundraiser for Habitat For Humanity.

Rafuse, who was sponsored by Habitat For Humanity to enter the challenge, realized early on that he had bitten off more than he could chew.

"When they told me about this, I figured I was coming down to have a snack and something to drink," he told SooToday.com. "An adjective or two like 'large' would have been useful information."

Needless to say, he couldn't finish the burger and placed last.

Burry still holds the fastest trial time at three minutes, six seconds, but placed third during Friday's final showdown with a time of five minutes, 18 seconds.

Brennan, who recently won a Frosty Challenge practice round, admitted that he held back a bit during this final challenge.

"There's already a Neil Burger on my menu," he said.

He finished in second place.

That leaves Frosty himself who, on his 30th birthday, won his own challenge with a time of four minutes, 24 seconds, beating his previous best time by 20 seconds.

"I feel great," Frosty told us after the window-rattling chorus of belching had subsided. "Today is my birthday, I just finished shutting down my business SooRadio.ca, and I'm going out tonight to celebrate with a bottle of Screech. I'd like to thank the people of Sault Ste. Marie for an excellent year of business."

Frosty departs later this month for Newfoundland, where he'll operate a family farm.

He nonetheless hopes to return next year to defend his title at Frosty Challenge 2009.

Habitat For Humanity marketing officer Katie Mazi and board president Rosalind Ennis were on hand to witness the spectacle.

They told SooToday.com that this was by far the most unique fundraising event they've ever been associated with.

"I really appreciate the way the community is supporting Habitat in such unique ways," said Ennis.

Frosty Challenge 2008 raised $300 for Habitat For Humanity.
