Sault Ste. Marie City Council has tonight provided Sault Ste. Marie Model Aircraft Radio Control Club with a new home at the south end of Leigh's Bay Road, south of Base Line.

Displaced a number of years ago from its original home at Strathclair, the club is now being similarly displaced from its present location on Black Road by Pod Generating Group's solar energy initiative.

City councillors agreed tonight to enter into a 10-year lease or licence of occupation with the club, charging an annual rent of $400.

The new location is City-owned and is mostly designated as wetland, so no development can take place there.

"The property seems to be far enough away from houses that noise from the airplanes should not present a problem," says City Solicitor Lorie Bottos. "This was becoming a problem at its location at Black Road with residents in Manitou Park."

"It has also been confirmed with Pod Solar Generating that the use by the club of this property will not conflict with Pod Solar's use of property to the east and property to the west," Bottos says.
