Jim McAuley is this year's recipient of the President's Award sponsored by the Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce.

The award was presented recently at the annual Sault Ste. Marie Chamber of Commerce Business Awards.

Here's the text accompanying McAuley's reception of the award:

************************* Initiated in 1982, the President’s Award recognizes someone who makes an exceptional effort, going above and beyond the call of duty in any area of business and community development.

Selected by the past president, this award is not necessarily given annually.

Recipient: Jim McAuley

We salute Jim McAuley as this year's President's Award recipient.

Jim's ongoing hard work and contributions over the years to numerous causes and activities within our community is applauded.

Jim has a strong desire to see and help our community keep growing and moving forward.

Jim offers a wealth information from a diverse business background.

He began his career in business when he worked at Cochrane Hardware Wholesale.

Later in his career he ran the family oil business where he led the company to experience major business growth.

At the same time Jim entered into acquisitions with property development within the community as well as developed many partnerships with various businesses in Sault Ste. Marie.

He later sold the oil business to Liqui Fuels and continued on with further working and developing real estate in Sault Ste. Marie while funding various businesses and partnerships.

Jim was a key individual instrumental in bringing the Soo Greyhounds hockey team to Sault Ste. Marie and acted for many years as its president.

He has a strong passion for hockey.

Jim is a long time member of Kiwanis.

Jim is a supporter of the chamber and an active volunteer with the chamber's government relations committee.

His input and contributions have not gone unnoticed.

He also served as a chamber volunteer with the sports celebrity dinner committee.

Jim has contributed greatly to many charitable organizations.

He has been active in many organizations and has served as a volunteer with many boards and committees helping those who needed assistance such as those in the education and health care sectors to name a few.

Jim is married and has three children.

Jim thank you for your time, commitment and service to our community.
