Cory Glaister, sporting the latest pants-optional convocation look, slipped away from the crowd on the front steps of Algoma University College this afternoon, leaping boldly into the future with a brand-new bachelor of arts (honours) degree in history.

Glaister was one of 197 students who graduated today as part of the largest-ever AUC class.

SAULT STE. MARIE, ON — Algoma University College will graduate the largest class in school history during its 2007 convocation ceremony, scheduled at 2 p.m. today in the George Leach Centre.

A total of 197 students will receive their degrees, bringing the total number of Algoma U graduates to 4,488 since the school's inception in 1967.

Presiding over the 2007 Convocation will be Algoma U President Dr. Celia Ross and Academic Dean Dr. Arthur Perlini, as well as Laurentian University President Dr. Judith Woodsworth [shown].

Included in this year's graduating class will be Algoma U's first graduates with the Honours Bachelor of Arts in History degree, as well as the Honours Bachelor of Arts in Law & Justice and Political Science.

Among the first recipients of this degree will be Robert Skeggs, who will receive the Honours Bachelor of Arts degree with a specialized concentration in both history and law & justice, and who will be graduating with his brother Steven Skeggs.

Steven will be receiving a Bachelor of Arts degree in geography. One other "brother act" will be participating in the 2007 convocation; Troy McLaughlin will be receiving an Honours Bachelor of Business Administration degree in accounting, while his brother David McLaughlin will earn his Bachelor of Science degree in biology. ************************* More coverage of Convocation 2007
