About 150 Saultites participated in a chilly Saturday-afternoon peace march against George W. Bush's planned war against Iraq.

Joining millions of protesters in cities around the world, they chanted and danced and carried signs pleading for peace.

The group assembled in front of the Sault Ste. Marie Court House and marched to the Queen Street offices of MP Carmen Provenzano, who wasn't there.

Numerous marchers taped valentines to the MP's door before leaving.

Local participants included Sault MPP Tony Martin; Gayle Broad, president of the Ontario New Democratic Party; Doug Olthuis, United Steel Workers of America area coordinator; and local canoe adventurers Gary, Sila and Kalija McGuffin (Joanie couldn't be here, she's in the middle of writing her latest book, Gary told SooToday.com.)
