NEWS RELEASESTUDENT ADMINISTRATIVE COUNCIL
************************
Sault College faculty strike
On Monday night talks broke down between Ontario Public Service Employees Union (OPSEU) and the College Compensation and Appointments Council (the Council), while trying to reach a new collective agreement for full-time faculty, librarians, and counsellors for all the 24 Colleges of Ontario.
"It is unfortunate that both side could not reach an agreement that is in the best interests of the students," says Graham Vooren, Student Administrative Council (SAC) president. "We are urging students to stay informed on the current situation by visiting www.collegestrike.com, their student e-mail, and the college website. Updates will be sent out as soon as we are made aware of new information, as well as dates when bargaining and classes will resume."
SAC is urging all students, families and concerned citizens to go to collegestrike.com and click on "e-mail," to help us inform and educate the Premier of Ontario, Dalton McGuinty, and the Minister of Training, Colleges and Universities, Christopher Bentley.
SAC would like to urge the provincial government to take all the necessary steps to prevent the students from loosing any academic time, or precious financial resources.
"I am asking that you support the College Student Alliance (CSA) and SAC's message to government, which is for them to do anything in their power to get both bargaining teams back to the table to reach an agreement," says Graham Vooren.
The Student Administrative Council at Sault College is composed of five elected representatives, representing over 2,000 full-time students.
The CSA is an advocacy and service organization, which currently represents 15 colleges and 22 student governments, with over 100,000 full-time student members.
For more information please visit www.collegestrike.com or stop by the Student Life Center and talk to SAC.
