Guy accidentally shoots arrow out his downtown window

The latest SooToday.com Rocket Scientist of the Week Award is hereby bestowed on Stephen Woods, 42, of 321 Wellington Street, for managing to get part of downtown Sault Ste. Marie shut down yesterday while police determined the source of an arrow that Stephen is accused of shooting out his window, missing a pillow on a chair he says he was aiming at.

Here's the official City Police description of Stephen's most extraordinary achievement:

********************* 42-year-old Stephen Woods of 3-321 Wellington Street West will appear in court on December 5.

Just before 5 p.m. yesterday City Police responded to a call in the 300 block of Wellington Street West regarding an arrow having just been fired into a fence in the rear parking lot of an address in the immediate area.

It is alleged that the accused was operating a compound bow in his apartment and was aiming at a pillow on a chair near an exterior window.

It is alleged that the bow was accidentally discharged, and travelled out the window, narrowly missing two persons who were exiting a vehicle in a neighbouring lot and lodged into a fence.

During the incident officers shut the road in the immediate area down to prevent vehicles and pedestrians from coming into the area.

Officers located the accused in his apartment where he was taken into custody.

Officers also located a 30-30 rifle unsafely stored in the apartment.

The accused has been charged with one count of possession of a weapon for purpose dangerous to the public and one count of contravention of storage regulations-fail to safely store.
