******************** Bear sighted in Great Northern Road - Terrance Avenue area

Shortly after noon today the Ministry of Natural Resources trapped a small bear cub in the area of Northern Avenue East and Willow Avenue.

This cub had apparently become separated from its mother.

At about 3:30 p.m. a larger bear believed to be the mother was sighted north of Second Line in the area of Killarney Road.

MNR personnel actively searched for the mother bear for several hours but were unable to locate it. The Ministry of Natural Resources and Sault Ste. Marie Police Service are advising anyone living in this area or travelling to this area to be alert to the possibility that this bear is still in the area.

Ministry staff advises that the mother bear's behaviour may be unpredictable as it searches for its cub.
