SOO GREYHOUNDS

********************* Hound unveil commemorative logo for 2005-2006 season

Today the Soo Greyhounds unveiled to the public their commemorative logo for the 2005-2006 season, which will honor the final year that the Hounds will play out of the Sault Memorial Gardens.

The logo is a symbol of the service that the Memorial Gardens has provided to both the community and the hockey club over its 57 years of operation.

More importantly, the logo prominently displays the Memorial Tower in order to further remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country during the world wars.

The Soo Greyhounds Hockey Club have played out of the Memorial Gardens every year since their inception as an Ontario Hockey League franchise in 1972.

Prior to joining the Ontario Hockey League, the Greyhounds were a member of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League and the Sault Memorial Gardens also served as the home to those unforgettable teams.

The logo will appear as a patch on the Official Reebok Game Jerseys worn by the hockey club throughout the 2005-2006 season.

The patch will be located on both shoulders of the jersey.

The symbol is a replica of the Memorial Tower, with its red beacon shining over the city.

The red light shines over Sault Ste. Marie on every Greyhound game night and has become synonymous with Greyhound hockey.

The Memorial Tower serves as a remembrance of those who represented our country during the World Wars.

Inside the logo of the tower is a scaled diagram of the entire front entrance of the renowned arena.

The bottom portion of the tower is wrapped by a red ribbon, inside of which the years of service and name of the facility are recognized.

The logo is set out to remember every aspect of the Memorial Gardens, and reach every single citizen of Sault Ste. Marie in remembering the building, which has brought many life long memories to anyone, who has ever passed through the gates of the Memorial Gardens.

The 2005-2006 season will be the final season that the Hounds will play out of the fabled arena before moving next door to a brand new state of the art Sports & Entertainment Centre.

Construction on the new facility is currently well under way, and upon its completion the Memorial Gardens will be torn down.

Throughout its existence the Memorial Gardens has hosted many of Canada's most elite sporting events including the Labatt Brier (1990), Canadian National Gymnastics Championship (1996), Air Canada Cup (2003), and the memorable 1993 Memorial Cup.

Those looking for their own copy of the logo can pick one up at the Sault Sports & Entertainment Fundraising Centre in the Station Mall, the Soo Greyhounds Administration Office, or the Soo Greyhounds Sales & Marketing Office.
