NEWS RELEASE

BRETON HOUSE

**************************
For decades, women have been closing the gender gap in the area of education and work and now the gap is closing quickly in the area of risky drinking.

This is leading to countless social, psychological and health related issues.

Ann Dowsett Johnston writes about the relationship between women and alcohol in her book Drink, and she will be in Sault Ste. Marie to spend an afternoon with her audience at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn to help further explore this phenomenon.

Ann will share openly her own journey through addiction and into recovery and she will recount the stories of countless women she has met who have also walked this path.

Hosted by Breton House, a local long term residential program for women with addictions; A New Link, its sister program which offers non-residential services to pregnant and parenting women with substance use issues; and the United Way of Sault Ste. Marie, this event hopes to draw attention to the growing problem of addiction amongst women as well as leave the audience with renewed hope that this is an illness over which women may triumph.

This event will take place on Sunday, October 25 and tickets are $35 ($20 for students).

Light refreshments will be served at 1 p.m. and Ann will begin her presentation at 2 p.m.

After her presentation, Ann will be available to answer questions and also to sign copies of her book which will be available on site.

This event is open to all members of the public.

Tickets are available by contacting the main office at Breton House (705) 759-4891 or A New Link (705) 946-0920.
