Environment Canada takes files, computers from Sudbury mine office

SUDBURY - Vale says it is fully cooperating with a federal investigation into alleged Fisheries Act violations in 2012.

City media received an anonymous email last night concerning a "raid" at the company's Copper Cliff offices.

"If you don't already know, the RCMP working for the Federal Department of Environment raided Vale's environment offices today in Copper Cliff," the email stated. "They left with files and computers."

Reached by phone, Angie Robson, Vale's manager of corporate and aboriginal affairs, confirmed that Environment Canada was on site yesterday.

"Environment Canada was on-site today collecting information related to alleged violations under the Fisheries Act that allegedly occurred in 2012," Robson said. 'Vale is cooperating fully in providing the information required."

No other information on the nature of the alleged violations is available at this time.
