NEWS RELEASE

TERRY SHEEHAN, LIBERAL CANDIDATE

*************************
During last night's all candidates' debate Bryan Hayes further demonstrated that he is out of touch, and more interested in towing the party line than he is in tackling the real and urgent needs in and around Sault Ste. Marie.

"It really seems that Mr. Hayes truly believes all is well here in the Sault," said Liberal candidate, Terry Sheehan. "Things are not, with the unemployment rate at the level it is, things need to change because what the Conservatives have been doing just isn't working."

Earlier in the campaign it was revealed that the current unemployment rate in Sault Ste. Marie is over 12 percent.

Sheehan continues,"Instead of accepting some responsibility for our unemployment rate and lagging economy, and speaking of what can be done to fix it, Mr. Hayes told everyone that what the Conservatives have done is working, and to be ready for more of the same. He questioned the unemployment rate and it seems he truly believes things are okay. Well, I can tell him that by speaking to the thousands of people I have spoken to over the course of the last couple of months, that the status quo is not working, that there are many that need jobs, and plenty of people feel it is time for a change."

The Liberal Party is the only party with a specific plan focused on Sault Ste. Marie.

With the commitment to spend 200 million dollars more on jobs in the forestry and clean energy sector and the historic infrastructure investments that are planned, Sault Ste. Marie and area is as well positioned as any place in the country to benefit from the Liberal plan.

"Essar will produce steel used in the infrastructure projects and the entrepreneurs and researchers in our area who have helped Sault Ste. Marie be known as 'The Alternative Energy Capital of North America' have the knowledge and ingenuity to benefit from the increased funding and create more of the jobs of tomorrow, right here in the Sault", concludes Sheehan.
