NEWS RELEASE

MICHIGAN DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION

*************************
For the fourth year in a row, the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) and the Mackinac Bridge Authority (MBA) are asking the public to share their Labor Day Mackinac Bridge Walk experiences on social media with photos and videos.

One person sharing their memories will be chosen at random to receive a once-in-a-lifetime tour to the top of the Mackinac Bridge.

Today through Monday, Sept. 14, you can post your memories of walking the bridge, either this year or a previous year, on Instagram or Twitter using the hashtag #MightyMacWalk15.

Memories also can be posted on MDOT's Facebook page (www.facebook.com/MichiganDOT) to be entered into the contest, and can include photos or videos.

A free gift pack of Pure Michigan merchandise donated by the Michigan Economic Development Corp., including hats and t-shirts, will be awarded to the person who travels the furthest to walk the bridge this year and shares their memory with MDOT.

A lucky person whose entry is chosen at random by computer will receive a tour for two to the top of the bridge, courtesy of the MBA.

MDOT employees and their families are not eligible for either prize but are encouraged to participate.

Last year, Andrea Martineau from Lansing had her photo chosen at random to win a free tour of the Mackinac Bridge, while Judy Wiltse from Nipomo, California, won a Pure Michigan prize pack for traveling the furthest to walk the bridge and share her memory with MDOT.

The entire "story" of last year's bridge walk promotion has been collected on MDOT's Storify page and can be found at: https://storify.com/michigandot/2014-labor-day-mackinac-bridge-walk-1.

Follow MDOT on Instagram at www.instagram.com/mdotpicoftheday, on Twitter at www.twitter.com/michigandot, and on Facebook at www.facebook.com/michigandot.
