Fatality in Hwy 17 collision (update: Hwy open)

OPP wish to advise motorists that Highway 17 south of Wawa is now fully open to traffic.

WAWA - On Thursday August 27, 2015 at approximately 7 a.m., members of the Superior East Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a single motor vehicle rollover on Highway 17 in the Laronde Township. 

Investigating officers have confirmed there was one fatality. 

The collision is still under investigation by members of the Wawa OPP Detachment with the assistance of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigator (TTCI) and Reconstructionist (RECON).

More information will be released as it becomes available.

10:30 a.m. update

WAWA – Members of the Superior East Wawa Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently at the scene of a motor vehicle collision located on Highway 17 approximately 20 Kilometers South of Wawa.

The Highway will remain closed while members of the Technical Traffic Collision Investigators (TTCI) and Reconstructionist (RECON) complete their investigation.

The Wawa Fire Department are also on scene to assist.

The public will be advise once the Highway is re-open.

Location:  Hwy 17 approximately 12 kms south of Wawa closed

Brief Description of Event:  Single motor vehicle collision involving tractor trailer

Estimated duration of Road Advisory: Unknown

The O.P.P. will distribute details and updates of the road advisory as information becomes available.
