Five new fires reported in the region

After yesterday’s update, 5 new fires were reported. Sudbury 44 is being held at 2.0 hectares, Sudbury 45 is being held at 0.8 hectares and Sudbury 46 is not yet under control at 4.3 hectares.

Chapleau 5 is being held at 0.4 hectares and Chapleau 6 is not yet under control at 0.1 hectares.

So far July 28, 1 new fire has been reported as Sudbury 47.

This fire is not yet under control at 0.5 hectares.

Currently there are 20 active fires in the region, 8 of which are being observed.

Wawa 9 is under control at 1.5 hectares, Timmins 10 is under control at 0.5 hectares and Chapleau 4 is under control at 8.2 hectares.

Sudbury 38 is being held at 23.6 hectares, Sudbury 42 is under control at 0.5 hectares and Sudbury 43 is under control at 0.3 hectares.

The fire hazard for the region July 28 ranges from low to extreme.

The area of most concern is Sault Ste. Marie to the Greater Sudbury area including Manitoulin Island.

This region is seeing and extreme hazard.

Out Of Province

Rotation continues in the support of firefighting efforts in western Canada.

Currently there are 167 fire management personnel from Ontario in the following locations - Alberta (2), British Columbia (104) and Saskatchewan (61).

Ontario is also providing equipment including fire hose, sprinkler kits, pumps and chainsaws to Alberta, British Columbia, Parks Canada and Saskatchewan.

The Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services program is reminding people that they are responsible for safe outdoor fire management and must follow guidelines set out in the Forest Fires Prevention Act of Ontario including no day burning of brush or grass fires.

Campfires are to be tended at all times and put out before leaving.
