Algoma man dead in Highway 69 crash (update: hwy open)

10:45 a.m. update

Sudbury Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police advise of the following road opening:

Location:  Hwy 69 between Hwy 64 and Hwy 637

Re-Opened: July 16, 2015 at 10:28 a.m.

9:30 a.m. update

An Elliot Lake man is dead this morning after a late-night crash on Highway 69.

The name of the deceased has not been released as the family has not yet been notified.

Const. Pedro Yoo of the Sudbury Ontario Provincial Police told NorthernLife.ca this morning that at about 1:48 a.m. last night a southbound minivan crossed the centre line and collided head on with a northbound tractor-trailer.

The driver of the minivan was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the truck was uninjured.

One lane of Hwy 69 is now open as police are beginning to release the scene.

Const. Yoo said the OPP expects the roadway to be open fully by 10 a.m. or so.

The OPP is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash.

Originally, police said the crash occurred about eight kilometres south of Hwy 637, but in the latest update report it was three kilometres south of the intersection.

An early morning accident about eight kilometres south of the intersection with Highway 637 has closed Highway 69 this morning.

Details are few at the moment.

All the Ontario Provincial Police has said so far is that crash has resulted in a fatality.

It is not known at this time how long the highway is expected to be closed.
