Province Investing In Local Infrastructure to Support Vulnerable Residents

Ontario is investing in maintenance improvements and renovations for community agencies in Sault Ste. Marie, so they can provide better assistance to people with developmental disabilities, David Orazietti MPP announced today.

“Our local agencies work tirelessly every day to help people who need specialized care and assistance,” said Orazietti. “These investments will mean safer places for those who provide, and those who rely on, social services in Sault Ste. Marie.”

As part of the provincial government’s Partner Facility Renewal Program, Community Living Algoma (CLA) will receive $100,500 for repairs and renovations at six CLA locations in Sault Ste. Marie.

These community agencies help people with a developmental disability lead active, fulfilling lives and provide support to their families.

Through the annual Partner Facility Renewal program, the government is investing a total of $12.4 million for upgrades and repairs at more than 700 community agencies across Ontario.

The investments help developmental service, Aboriginal health and wellness and Violence Against Women agencies maintain the facilities where they provide services and programming.

“Community Living Algoma is very appreciative of the ongoing support from Mr. Orazietti and the Ontario Liberal government. The funding from the Partner Facility Renewal Program will assist us to complete some significant capital improvements to many of the homes and locations where supports and services are provided. With these investments, the Liberal government continues to demonstrate their commitment to the developmental services sector and we are very appreciative of these types of funding announcements” said John Policicchio, Executive Director of Community Living Algoma.

Supporting community agencies that help those most in need is part of the government's plan to build Ontario up.

The four-part plan includes investing in people's talents and skills, making the largest investment in public infrastructure in the province's history, creating a dynamic, supportive environment where business thrives and building a secure retirement savings plan.

There are approximately 65,000 adults with a developmental disability in Ontario. Approximately 18,000 people with a developmental disability receive residential supports in the community, while another 15,000 receive direct funding for services and supports.
