1:15 p.m. update:

Terry Sheehan has issued a press release (included below) regarding the upcoming nomination meeting.

Earlier coverage:

Local Liberals will gather July 6 to choose a Sault candidate for October’s federal election.

Terry Sheehan, longtime Ward 2 city councillor, who announced last month that he would seek the Liberal nomination, is currently the only one who has completed the party’s candidacy process.

The Liberals will be the last of the three main parties to choose a Sault candidate.

Skip Morrison, an Essar Steel Algoma crane operator and financial advisor, won the Sault riding’s NDP nomination last week.

Conservative incumbent Bryan Hayes has confirmed he will seek re-election.

The Liberal nomination meeting takes place July 6 at 7 p.m. at the Water Tower Inn.

The following is a press release issued today by Sheehan:

*************************
I am pleased that the Liberal Party of Canada has announced that the Federal Liberal Nomination Meeting will be taking place on July 6 at 7 p.m. at Algoma’s Water Tower Inn.

I would like to invite all members of the Liberal party in Sault Ste. Marie to attend and participate in this process.

I am excited to have the opportunity to run as a candidate nominee and I look forward to seeing everyone at the nomination meeting on July 6

Over the last month, I’ve been working hard to meet with community members from across the riding to listen to issues and concerns that are important to you in the upcoming election.

I’m looking forward to continuing my work and meeting with constituents of the riding as we discuss real change for our community.
