Many people struggle with understanding the complexities of their finances, from simple budgeting and managing debt to their mortgage and investing.

To help, ‘Northern Know How,’ a financial literacy program, was recently launched.

Presented by Northern Credit Union, ‘Northern Know How’ creates a platform for financial knowledge and provides tools to assist individuals in gaining a better hold on their financial standing.

“Financial literacy has long been a passion of Northern Credit Union and is one of the four pillars of our Corporate Social Responsibility mandate,” says Al Suraci, President & CEO, Northern Credit Union. “We realized early on that many people needed help in fine tuning some of the skills needed to make knowledgeable choices when it comes to their finances. We wanted to create a resource specifically for this purpose, and that’s the inspiration behind ‘Northern Know How’.

While nobody can argue the importance of financial literacy, it isn’t exactly the most compelling of subject matters.

So, to help keep their target audience’s attention, ‘Northern Know How’ content is presented with a Northern flair, and an equal amount of humour.

“While finance is a serious matter, there’s no reason it cannot be entertaining,” Suraci explains. “With Northern Know How people can look forward to learning how to ‘survive in the Financial Wild’ courtesy of our expert Financial Survival Guides. Through our online videos and other digital communications, we hope to give people a valuable and fun resource to help them gain control of their financial futures. This will be of real benefit to our members and those in our communities.”

‘Northern Know How’ will launch 32 online videos, which focus on four primary financial categories: Budgeting, Managing Debt, Mortgages and Investing.

Other parts of the program include a dedicated website and social interaction courtesy of a Facebook page.

The site also features some handy downloads like Money Maps and other tools to keep people’s finances in good order.
