Look whats going up at Cedar and Birch

Habitat for Humanity broke ground Thursday morning on the construction of a home for two more families.

“Being able to be a part of the Habitat for Humanity family has been great,” said Jocelyn Wilkinson, whose family will be moving into one half of the semi-detached unit at the corner of Birch and Cedar Streets.

The build is expected to be completed just before Christmas.

“We have our keychain ready. They gave it to us as a present (last Christmas) and we can’t wait to put the key on it,” said Wilkinson.

Since 2002, Habitat for Humanity has built homes for seven local families.

The families are supported by an interest-free mortgage.

Habitat says it is still looking for volunteers to help with this latest project.

“You don’t need to have any specific construction skills. Just come out, there’s always jobs that need to be done that don’t require you to have some type of a construction background,” said Lorri Kennis, Habitat board chair.
