1 a.m. update

Platoon Chief Damon Ferris told SooToday that Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services received notification of a house fire at 28 Wellington Street East at 10:06 p.m.

No injuries were reported, but the residence sustained heavy damage as a result of the blaze.

There were two people in the house when the fire started, and a witness at the scene told us passers-by offered assistance to an elderly woman as she exited the home.

The cause of the fire is yet to be determined and remains under investigation.

Fire crews responded to a house fire on Wellington Street East near Gore Street at approximately 10 p.m. Friday evening.

It is unknown at this time if any injuries were reported.
