NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE MARIE & DISTRICT LABOUR COUNCIL

*************************
Every year, thousands of Canadians are killed or injured on the job or die from work-related diseases.

Workers in Canada today are four times more likely to die because of something that happens to them at work than to be murdered.

For the last twenty-four years April 28 has been recognized as the National Day of Mourning.

This is a time to reflect on family, friends and co-workers who have been killed or injured on the job or who have died or became ill due to toxic exposures.

We must also remember that these accidents and exposures, affect not only the worker, but their family and friends as well.

The public is invited to a Commemorative Service at the Grand Gardens (68 Dennis Street) at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 28, 2015.

Refreshments will be served following the ceremony.

We encourage flags to be flown at half-mast and that people everywhere observe a minute of silence at exactly 11 a.m.

Join to recognize victims of workplace accidents and disease as we remember to Fight for the Living and Mourn for the Dead.
