Searchmont Resort is looking for another general manager.

The financially troubled ski hill, sold in January by its not-for-profit board to the Sault Ste. Marie Economic Development Corp., issued a news release advertising the job.

The successful candidate would be the fourth person to hold the position since the fall.

Paul Suda, a retired hospitality and management instructor from Humber College, who served as GM at Searchmont in the 1990s, returned to the role in November, replacing longtime hill manager Dan Missere.

Chris Greensted, who had served as outside operations manager, apparently took over for Suda sometime early this year.

The EDC bought Searchmont in January for $750,000 to prevent it from closing. The EDC, which operates at arms-length from the city, has said it plans complete repairs and upgrades at the facility before selling it.

The EDC is expected to be able to leverage $1.2-million in existing agreements which FedNor and Northern Ontario Heritage Fund had with SSAI in order to make improvements to the site.

Searchmont was expected to lose in the range of $250,000 this season.

Justus Veldman, chair of SSAI, suggested at a March annual general meeting that it would be possible to merge the ski resort’s administration with some other local tourist attraction, possibly one that is slow during the winter.
