NEWS RELEASE

SAULT STE. MARIE
POLICE SERVICE

*************************
Tax season is upon us and the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has received a few reports from citizens reporting a scam where an email is received indicating that there is an e-transfer from Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

The subject line will likely read Interact e-Transfer from CRA.

In the body of the email there will be a monetary fund mentioned and a link in which you are asked to deposit your funds.

Do not click on the link and do not provide any information.

CRA has indicated on their website that they are aware of the scam.

They confirm that they will not send any emails with a link and they will not request any personal information from a taxpayer by email or text message.

In addition if they send an email it will be in both English and French.

For further information on how you can protect yourself from this scam visit the CRA site at:
