Jade Wellness today announced it will host a special presentation presented by refugee student from Sault College, Hsar Wah Kae, who is originally from Burma and is now studying Peace and Conflict study in Canada.

Hsar always has a smile on his face and therefore it is very hard to link him to his compelling life story.

Born in Burma, he fled to Thailand due to civil war and lived in a refugee camp since age 14.

He came to Canada through the WUSC sponsorship (World University Services of Canada) which support Refugee Students around the world every year.

Culture shock? Of course.

“This is the biggest city I’ve ever lived in. We used to live in a small village and grow our own food.”

Helping with daily cleaning routine at Jade Wellness, he was amazed by how many machines we use here.

Most of all, he felt a sense of stability and safety that he didn’t have growing up.

“In Burma, if you don’t have money, you don’t have medical care,” says Hsar. “There is very limited access to medicine in the camp and we have to guard the drinking water from poisoning.”

To help Canadians better understand the situation in Burma and gain some perspective, this coming Friday night from 7:30 - 8:30 p.m., Hsar will give a presentation and share insight into what life is like in refugee camp and what we can do to make a positive change.

The presentation is by donation and all proceeds go to Mae Tao Clinic in Thailand, run by Nobel Peace Prize winner Cynthia Maung to provide refugee medical assistance.

To register, call Jade Wellness, 705-257-7707 or visit http://jadewellnessstudio.com.
