Small plane crash reported at Sault Airport

9:45 p.m. release - Small plane crashes as Sault Ste. Marie Airport On the 14th of April at approximately 7:37 p.m. a 911 call was received indicating that an airplane had crashed at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport.

On the 14th of April at approximately 7:37 p.m. a 911 call was received indicating that an airplane had crashed at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport. Emergency personnel from the Sault Ste. Marie Police Service, the Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services and Sault Ste. Marie Fire Services EMS responded to the airport.

Staff from the Sault Airport Fire Services was already in attendance.

The airplane involved was a PA 18 Piper Super Cub and two persons were on board. 

No one was injured in the crash which occurred shortly after it touched down. 

Damage to the plane is described as moderate.

NAV Canada was notified of the crash and indicated that they would not be attending and authorized the removal of the plane from the crash area.

During the initial investigation the Sault Ste. Marie Airport was closed for a short period of time but has now resumed normal activity.

The Sault Ste. Marie Police Service has completed their involvement in this incident.

Witnesses are reporting Sault Ste. Marie Police Services and other emergency vehicle activity at the Sault Ste. Marie Airport this evening.

The nature of the incident is not known at this time.

There has been no comment thus far from Police or Airport representatives.
