Local & Visiting Artists to host Puppet Making Workshop in Serpent River FN

Serpent River First Nation - Thinking Rock Community Arts returns to the North Shore in 2015 to host a series of artistic skill building workshops for The Rivers Speak community play project.

This work is supported by the Ontario Trillium Foundation and the Ontario Arts Council.

The Rivers Speak Puppet Making Workshop

Anyone with an interest in contributing to a fun arts-based community project about the rivers and waterways surrounding Elliot Lake, Blind River, Mississaugi First Nation and Serpent River First Nation are welcome to join us for FREE.

Participants will learn from professional visiting artists how to make a variety of puppets to animate local stories, including hand-held puppets, multi-person puppets and shadow puppets.

Activities will take place March 28th and March 29th from 1-5pm at the Serpent River First Nation Community Centre.

No artistic skill is required, people of all ages are welcome and free onsite childcare will be provided. Drop by any time.

Activities will be facilitated by local artists and visiting artists from SKETCH and Jumblies Theatre in Toronto, ON.

About the Rivers Speak community play project

This is the first of four skill-building workshops to be hosted in the North Shore this summer as part of the Rivers Speak community play project.

The Rivers Speak will culminate in a community play created with and for the communities of Blind River, Mississauga First Nation, Elliot Lake and Serpent River First Nation in the summer of 2016.

This production will surface and celebrate the stories of the rivers and waterways of this area as told by the people that call it home.
