Lee Maracle is coming to town

Algoma University and the Anishinaabe Initiatives Division (AID) will be hosting an Indigenous Academic Writing Workshop with Indigenous author Lee Maracle on March 31 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. in the Shingwauk Auditorium.

Lee Maracle was born in North Vancouver and is a member of the Sto: Loh nation.

She is currently an instructor at the University of Toronto, a Traditional Teacher for First Nation’s House, an instructor with the Centre for Indigenous Theatre and the S.A.G.E, as well as the writing instructor for the Banff Centre for the Arts.

Maracle is the author of a number of critically-acclaimed literary works including Sojourner’s and Sundogs, Polestar/Raincoast, Ravensong, Bobbi Lee, Daughters Are Forever, Will’s Garden, Bent Box, and I Am Woman.

She is the co-editor of numerous anthologies and has published in scholarly journals worldwide.

Maracle has received an Honorary Doctor of Letters from St. Thomas University, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal, as well as the Ontario Premier’s Award for Excellence in the Arts.

This academic workshop is ideal for students, staff, faculty, and those beginning and continuing with post-secondary education in the fall.

Maracle will address Indigenous research methods and academic writing in an interactive format.
