Today Hometown Hockey with Ron MacLean, Darryl Sittler, Marty Turco and Steve Sullivan continues at the Bondar Pavilion. On Thursday former NHLer Sullivan, a Timmins native and former Greyhound, surprised the Green for Life Whalers Midget B hockey team during a practice at the Essar Centre. 

SooToday readers also learned, today, that Brad Jacobs and his rink from Soo Curlers is atop the standings at the 2015 Tim Hortons Brier through three four draws. The Brier continues next week.

On Friday Saultites learned of a tragic house fire in the Fifth Line - Old Highway 17 area. The homeowner lost his beloved doberman pinscher and two cats, his $700,000 home and attached two-car garage as well as two cars and three high-end motorcycles.

Sault Ste. Marie MPP David Orazietti announced $2 million in funding for phase three of the Second Line East widening project on Friday and, on Tuesday, he announced plans for some big changes at Community Living Algoma

Early in the morning on Friday, residents of Echo Bay were awakened by an explosion that rattled neighbours and caused extensive damage to the Echo Bay Sportsplex. 

Sault Ste. Marie Police Service is seeking information about an axe-wielding robber wanted in connection with an incident at the Boundary Road Mac's Mart early Thursday morning. Police also reported an arrest of a 57-year old man who was charged with numerous sexual charges relating to three young female victims.

Wednesday morning found readers talking about Ontario Ministry of Education’s new Health and Physical Education curriculum after Algoma District School Board shared its take on the new curriculum.

On Tuesday, the Sault Ste. Marie and Area Drug Misuse Strategy Committee announced a comprehensive program aimed at reducing fentanyl abuse and SooToday brought readers news about how it will work and why it's needed. 

On Monday, SooToday readers learned it's going to cost $2.7 million a year for the next 10 years to keep up with maintenance costs of the City of Sault Ste. Marie's capital assets, (city buildings, sewage treatment plants and pumping stations, stormwater management, bridges, roads, storm and sanitary sewers, the city’s vehicle fleet and equipment).The good news is this won't cost taxpayers more in 2015. The following years are another matter.
