30 cadets compete in marksmanship competition (5 photos)

30 Sea, Army and Air Cadets competed from across the Algoma area and set their sights on hitting the bulls eye this past weekend at the Pine Street Armoury.

The five person rifle team representing the 2310 Army Cadet Corps from the Soo placed first for the highest  team score with 1209 points in the first stage of the Canadian Cadet Movement Marksmanship Competition.

Gold medals were awarded to the following 2310 Army Cadets,  Mackenzie Simmons, Austin Olar,  Dalton Mueller, Grace Assiginack, Kaylee Marcil. 

Using their marksmanship skills learned as part of the their regular cadet training and honed in regular practices and summer training, the 30 cadets used single action .177 cal. air rifles at a distance of 10 meters to hit a 10 diagram paper competition targets twice for a total of 20 diagrams in the prone position and then again in the standing position. 

Seventy percent of their score was assigned in the prone and 30 percent in the standing positions with ten point awarded for a bulls eye.

The following five person team earned Silver Medals, 2407 Army Cadet Corps in Blind River was Austin Norquay, Ben Swan, Emily Roach, Michelle Glasser and Falicity Hawkins.

Earning Bronze Medals for Third Place was 46 Royal Sovereign Sea Cadet Corps from the Soo, consisting of, Shiloh Outman, Roger Moss, Justin Coccimiglio, Angelica Lanthier,  Mackenzy Vachon. 

Also competing in the competition were teams from the following Air Cadet Sqn's, 155 Sault Ste Marie and 696 Blind River as well as 306 Sea Cadet Corps from Elliot Lake.

Scoring high scores as individuals in the Junior Category was, Kaylee Marcil 2310 Army, Falicity Hawkins  and Michelle Glasser both of 2407 Blind River, earning Gold, Silver and Bronze respectively.

In the Senior Category was , Emily Roach 2407 Army, Roger Moss and Shiloh Outman both of 46 Sea who received Gold, Silver, Bronze medals respectively.

The high scores from this competition will be assessed against other competitions that where held across Northern Ontario with the top marksman going to the next phase which will be the Provincial Competition to determine the top marksman team and individuals in Ontario.
